The National Conference for Catechetical Leadership (NCCL) held their annual meeting and conference in Dallas May 22 – 25, 2017. Each year NCCL presents their DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD.
The award is intended to recognize and applaud the good works of someone who has spent many years in catechesis helping individuals and communities encounter the Good News of Jesus. In their ministry they have worked with enthusiasm and dedication while making substantial contributions to those they serve with humility and for the sake of the Gospel.
This year’s recipient is a couple, Carol and Monroe Nichols, who have served one another, their country and God through through parish work and Carol’s position with the Diocese of Nashville as Associate Director of Lifelong Learning for eleven years. While Monroe served in the military both he and Carol always put themselves at the service of the United States Army Chaplaincy office, usually in the area of religious education. As members of NCCL they served the organization with their willingness to help however needed, always with a smile and a genuine spirit of love.
Carol graduated from Austin Peay State University in 1966 and from Georgia State University in 1982. Monroe is a 1957 graduate of Tennessee Tech and a 1974 graduate of Northwest Missouri State.
In acceptance of this honor Monroe responded “It’s been an honor to serve God in this manner.”
